About UsE.D. Swain Ltd is a small, dedicated, family owned and operated business offering its clients a very personal service. Based in Dunsandel on the Canterbury Plains in the South Island, E.D. Swain Ltd cart stock, bulk, freight and also specialise in grass contracting including mowing, baling, raking, and wrapping services.

Who We Are |
E.D Swain Ltd has teams dedicated to both trucking and contracting. Eddie is the day to day manager of the business alongside Sandra his wife. Sandra also works in the office with their daughter Anna. Son Brad works in the trucking company full time as a stock truck driver while their other son Stephen is involved in the contracting operation. With 10 full time staff across the business growing to around 15 in the harvest season.

Our History |
Eddie and Sandra Swain have a lifetime of experience to offer the business. Eddie was born and bred on a sheep and beef farm in Southland and moved to Canterbury when he was 16. Sandra originally from North Canterbury moved to Dunsandel when she was 14, where her father owned and operated his own trucking business. In 1987 Eddie & Sandra bought their first truck a 1970 Mercedes Benz LK 1418 and E.D. Swain Ltd was formed. The trucking side of the business has now grown into a fleet of six Scania’s carting a mixture of stock & bulk.
In 2006 balage contracting was added to the services when Eddie who owns and leases 220ha in Canterbury used for mixed cropping, bull beef and dairy grazing, realized he needed a more reliable service for his own farm. He bought his own baler and before long people started requesting him to do the balage contracting on their own farms. 2015 saw another expansion to the contracting side with a purchase of a local contracting business expanding the whole operation. |
